ELC celebrates 30th anniversary
The English Language Centre (ELC) is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Founded in 1987 by Datin Valerie Mashman and Beverley Cox, ELC has provided quality English language tuition to generations of students in Kuching.
Starting with 2 teachers and 2 classes in April 1987 at Jalan Keretapi, it has grown to the current enrolment of over 1,200 students and 25 teachers at its present location at Fortuneland Business Centre, Jalan Rock. ELC continues to offer courses for Pre-Primary, Primary Secondary classes as well as classes for IELTS and Adults.
Over the years, ELC has continuously presented candidates for the Trinity College London Spoken Exams which have enabled them to build their confidence in their speaking skills.
In addition, students have also participated in and won numerus commendation awards in international writing competitions such as the Royal Commonwealth Essay competition and the Scholastic writing competition. Some have even gone on to be published writers.
ELC was awarded a 5-star rating by the Ministry of Education in the private language centre category based on the high standards achieved of teaching and learning in a positive school environment.
To mark this milestone, a range of activities such as creative writing, journal writing, project work and conducting interviews based on the theme '30' have been planned to celebrate this occasion. For more information about classes at ELC, please call 082-250950.
