Reading Programme

Pre-primary, Primary 1 and Cambridge 1 children have an individualised reading programme which prepares them to gain competence in reading in English which is so essential to passing exams as well as in the real world.

The children have a scheduled reading time once a week with an experienced reading teacher using books from the Longman
reading series, the Sunshine series and the Ginn reading series.

In addition, there is a weekly library period when they can borrow a book of their choice. ELC has a well-equipped library with books of different genres to cater for the wide spectrum of reading proficiencies of the students.

As children grow older, being able to read enables them to develop their imagination, have a sense of achievement and gives them the intrinsic reward that reading brings.
